The series, called kuu-tee listening sessions, introduced both local and international artists working with sound four times a year. The themes of each event are approached through listening exercises, lectures and workshops.
The next listening session will take place at the Oulu Art Museum on Thursday 15 May at 4.30pm-6pm under the theme: Collective listening & inward melting. The guest artist will be composer and sound artist Lau Nau, aka Laura Naukkarinen, whose music moves at the crossroads of electroacoustic experimentation and songwriting.
Lau Nau is known for her Jussi Award-winning film music for Katja Gauriloff’s film Je’vida and for her multi-channel sound installations. She has performed actively around the world, including at Super Deluxe in Tokyo, The Lab in San Francisco and Pioneer Works in New York. Lau Nau has released 10 full-length albums, the most recent being the band album ‘Aphrilis’ and ‘5 x 4’, composed on the Buchla 200 modular synthesizer. She was awarded the Finnish State Prize for the Performing Arts 2021 as a sound designer. Lau Nau runs a monthly listening and listening session in Turku.
AGF’s artistic work focuses on language, sound, listening and politics. Her work draws on feminist sound technologies and in 2020 AGF founded RECon (rec-on.org) with political sound and the activist community at its core. AGF has realised works at the Centre Pompidue in Paris, London ICA, as well as at the Southbank Centre. As a performing artist she has been performing at several venues, such as Ars Electronica in Linz and Sonar Festival in Barcelona. In Hailuoto, she launched Hai-Art in 2010, which produced public art and the Hailuoto iPad Orchestra for school children.
Listening sessions for all ages can be attended with a museum ticket. The language of the meetings is English. Informal interpretation is available in Finnish.
