The inclusion of a work of art in the city’s art collections involves photographing the work, recording its data in the museum information system and, in particular, storing of documents and photographs relating the artwork for future reference by a conservator. Some of the artworks are added to the collection for a limited period under a life cycle contract. Sometimes an artwork can no longer be conserved or repaired and has to be removed.

The maintenance of public art includes carefully considered conservation work, technical repairs, cleaning and protection, and the provision of guidance to users (proactive care).

Guidelines for the handling of public art in premises managed by the city’s facility services have been developed by recording maintenance and conservation instructions in the property management system used by property user representatives, property managers and property administrators.
