The word origami (折り紙) comes from the Japanese words ori (折り) and kami (紙), which mean fold and paper. Paper has been folded all over the world for art and entertainment since it was invented. The first signs of origami were found in Japan in the 1700s. By the 1900s, origami had spread around the world and today is an internationally practised art form. Origami develops finger dexterity, mathematical skills, geometry, three-dimensional thinking, patience and problem-solving skills.
