Social division and technological transformation have shaped the Western landscape for a long time. Now it seems that the familiar structures and values of societies, such as democracy and human rights, are being put to the test and changing.

What kind of lives do we live on screen, and what does reality look like outside of it? The internet, digital solutions and artificial intelligence are constantly available, while there seems to be less and less room for human thought, ethical reflection and empathy. Are we turning into passive followers?

Could history and its marginal notes provide tools for understanding the challenges of our time and for fostering faith in the future? Out of Time brings together contemporary artists from Finland and abroad with works that traverse time from the Middle Ages to the present day.

The exhibition also features works from the collections of the Aine Art Museum and the WAM Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as objects from the collections of the Oulu Museum. The exhibition is supported by the Finnish Heritage Agency and Culture Ireland, as well as the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland.
