The 60-year-old Oulu Art Museum has been the regional art museum for 40 years. In honour of the anniversary, a travelling exhibition from the museum’s collection has been produced and made available to the municipalities of North Ostrobothnia and Kainuu for display in exhibition spaces.

The artists featured in the Small Spaces exhibition are Marjatta Hanhijoki, Nanna Herstad, Inari Krohn, Elina Luukanen, Minna Mäkelä, Anja Rönty, and Marja Strömmer with prints and ink drawings.

The exhibition focuses on small spaces. They can be everyday spaces of home and artistic work, different states of mind or mystical dreamscapes. Objects and furniture give hints about the people who live and work in the spaces. In some works, the spaces are silent or even empty, while others focus on interaction between people. They reflect the interest of the artists in exploring spatiality and the variations of light and shadow.
